A great way to manage stress!
A great way to manage stress!
My first float tank experience is in the books and if I had to describe it in one word…
FASCINATING
For those who don’t know about this therapy, I will tell you what it is in a nutshell. This is a go-to spa treatment growing in popularity at a fast pace. Basically, you lay in a pod filled with about 1000 pounds of Epsom salt dissolved in 12” of body temperature water and just float (with zero effort) for 60-90 minutes. Think of this as a complete escape by yourself where nothing, even gravity, weighs you down. It is a wonderful place to relax, unwind, calm your mind, meditate, and/or give yourself a break from the everyday chaos, in a private and peaceful place.
Not only is it extremely relaxing. There are tons of benefits to floating on a regular basis. It has been discovered to be beneficial for lowering stress, anxiety, depression, joint pain, muscle aches, swelling, insomnia, and even jet lag. It can boost creativity, energy, and athletic performance. It has also been reported to help lower blood pressure and maximize blood flow. It can be done by just about anyone, including pregnant women!
I have been wanting to try this for a couple years now, but a couple things held me back. 1) Locating a convenient place to go 2) I was worried I wouldn’t like being in an enclosed water tank. Let’s be honest, the idea/fear of intentionally closing yourself into a water tank was the real reason I put this on the back burner for so long. But, I couldn’t resist taking the plunge (ha!) right away after I received a gift card in my stocking this Christmast to a local spa in my area.
Because the capsule is so large with an easy to open and close door, you don’t feel suffocated or trapped. When I was being given the instructions in the beginning, the attendant told me I could have music or soothing sounds, but to get the best fulfillment from the experience, try no noise to submerge yourself in complete sensory deprivation. I instantly felt like the only comfort I had in doing this was to have sound, so I selected an ocean theme. It took me only 2-3 minutes before I turned the sound off and just laid there in dark silence for a complete hour. I don’t believe I have never felt so relaxed or at ease. It is completely freeing and at several points I felt like I was sleeping but wasn’t, which also is a normal and regular part of this practice.
Now that I have been, I am here to say that if you had the same worry as me, DON’T let that stop you from going. You will NOT be disappointed. I can’t find one thing I didn’t like about it. The only change I will make next time, is to use the ear plugs provided.
My opinion on the float tank is that if you have ever been curious about “floating”, do it! As for me, I will become a frequent floater and indulge in the several benefits that come along with it.
Enjoy!! 😊
