What are Chakras? A Basic Overview
How much do you know about Chakras? When I first started my yoga practice, I admit I had very little knowledge in exactly what chakras were. In basic terms, chakras are 7 distinct energy centers throughout the human body located along the spine, through the neck and crown of you head. These centers are associated with an array of health-related problems as well as mental obstacles and emotional stress. Sometimes it is just a matter of drawing awareness and energy to the chakra to open it up and letting it heal. And, other times it can be not only bring in awareness mentally, but adding some physicality to the equation to deepen the healing needed for whatever imbalance present. You can do this through activities, exercises, mediations, music, colors, creative outlets and other sensory stimulators.
You can quickly find out where you are imbalanced by doing a chakra centered meditation.. By focusing on the meaning and color or other visual association of each chakra, it can break out emotions and/or tensions you never realized you had. Once the awareness is formed, you can begin the process to clear any blockages and over time align the energy centers to live, if not a harmonious life, a grounded and stable life. Its up to you to decide what technique or avenues work for you in aligning them, as different things work for everyone.
